Transfering history items between cases

Post by David P » Mon Apr 29, 2019 2:52 pm

Afternoon,

We are getting a lot of requests from one particular department to move all history items after a given date to another case.
Given that using the 'copy to another of today's cases' is cumbersome for the end user and the WIP transfer does not copy the documents at the same time, I was looking at doing a CDH export and then importing into the target case. Problem is, I can't see any way of specifying a start date for the export. I've looked at manipulating the XML file so that only the relevant entries are imported but this particular example I'm looking at is 54k lines long so I really don't rate my chances of not messing that right up.

Anyone else dealt with similar before?

Hi David,

Never to that degree, especially where you only need to move parts of the history.

Only suggestion I can think of on the spot is to select the history items you want to export, i.e. Shift Click the 'start date' or first item, and then select the next one. You could them move or drag them to a new temporary case and then extract them from there.

Cheers. I actually meant to follow this post up. I have ended up editing the XML file prior to importing into the target case and all works well. It's a pain in the rear but works. I've ended up having to do quite a few recently.

If I get time I might have a play and see if I can concoct some kind of selection tool that reads the XML, makes a selectable list and writes a new XML file. However, time is in very short supply!

Haha, I can imagine. Did you just delete the parts that where outside your timeframe I'm guessing?

Sounds like a good idea to be fair! I hope you get more time on your hands haha.

Yep, had the history open on one monitor and the XML on the other.

That's certainly one way of doing it :P

I commend your ingenuity. I'll have to borrow that trick.

Are you not able to drag and drop, I think we can between matters.

Yes. We encourage our users to do that for small quantities but try doing that for several hundred records - that's a lot of incoming mail screens to complete!
