External Application Write to local .txt file (log file)

Post by Code Killer »

Hi All,

This is probably really simple, I just can't quite find it in the manuals/patch notes or in any posts here. :?

What I'm trying to do is use External Application to write to a local .txt file with variables I'm going to put together just checking a number of fields of a file something like this:

PRO12345|status_1|status_2|status_3

This is something that'll be generated by an ad-hoc ran auto routine.

Thanks :D

why do you need external application specifically? Can you use Advanced Report Creator or Export, triggered ad-hoc to do the same thing?

Hi Steve,

Apologies for the delay, external application was what came to mind.

The idea being that it would keep a log of any failures where files were locked or for any other reason really. I don't use Advanced Report Creator, everything analytics based I use SQL Management Studio and Crystal reports.

I can't remember ever needing to use export and looking at the syntax, I don't think that would be of use in any case for this in particular.

I've managed to get the job I wanted to use this for in any case but it could come in useful later at some point.

Thanks Steve!
